Wanderer is an adventure tabletop role-playing game that aims to capture the experience of the early editions of the world-renowned RPG Dungeons & Dragons. It was precisely those early editions of D&D that gave players a phenomenal freedom of action and agency, and so the Old School Renaissance movement — to which Wanderer belongs — set out to preserve the principles laid down at the beginning of our hobby, while gathering them into a modern form.
A key strength of Wanderer is its classic core system: roll a d20 + ability modifier, and the result must exceed a set difficulty. Unlike modern editions of D&D, the game stands out for its concise and straightforward rules. Character creation takes up to 10 minutes. The rulebook contains everything necessary in 50 pages, and a great many modules marked “OSR compatible” also work with Wanderer.
Wanderer also has the long-term support of the Ukrainian Old School Renaissance community, so supplements are being prepared for publication in the format of irregular zines, expanding the game with additional rules, scenarios, setting modules, and educational and reference material for GMs and players.
